Farm, Land, Ranch & Equestrian Properties

  • Trail Systems & Riding Terrain: Access to public lands, trails, forest service roads, and private equestrian-friendly properties.

  • Feed, Tack & Supplies Nearby: Local stores and feed mills that offer equine feed, pasture seed, fencing supplies, etc.

  • Veterinary Care & Horse Health Services: Clinics, ambulatory vets, specialists for farrier, dental, lameness, etc.

  • Equestrian & Agricultural Community: 4-H, ranch shows, horse clinics, networking among owners and ranchers.

  • Proximity vs. Privacy: Hamilton, Stevensville, Darby, Victor etc. offer supplies and amenities while many properties remain remote.

Below are some of the feed stores, vet clinics, and related businesses in the Bitterroot Valley & Ravalli County. These are crucial supports for anyone buying or maintaining equine/farm/ranch property here.

Feed & Farm Supply Stores

  • Montana Horse Sanctuary — not only does this group provide shelters and care, it also hosts clinics like “Horse Ownership 101,” which are hugely helpful for new and transitioning equine owners. Bitterroot Star
  • 4-H / FFA Agricultural Clubs — youth programs offering horsemanship, livestock shows, education across Ravalli County and neighboring counties.
  • County Fairgrounds & Events — for fairs, equine dentistry clinics, local shows, community gatherings.
  • Percent of pasture vs. timber or brush. Water rights, springs, creeks, irrigation systems.

  • Fencing quality, barns & shelters (winter weather hits hard).

  • Accessibility—winter roads, snowpack, distance to supply stores or vet care.

  • Soil quality & forage types. Elevation and climate zones matter a lot for what grows where.

  • Local zoning, conservation easements, or other restrictions in Ravalli County.

  • Rock Creek Horse Camp / Rock Creek Trailhead (Lake Como Recreation Area) — This site gives you access to trails around Lake Como and west into the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness. It has stock facilities (hitching rails, stock ramp), trailer parking, etc. US Forest Service
  • Fred Burr Trail (Victor, MT) — A roughly 16.1 km looped trail, graded “Easy,” which starts and ends in Victor. Scenic, good for mixed use including horseback riding. Hiiker
  • Lower South Fork Lost Horse Trail (near Hamilton, MT) — An ~8.6 km looped track that begins/ends near Hamilton, suitable for horseback riding; a gentler loop for a few hours’ ride. Hiiker
  • Bass Creek Trailhead (Bitterroot National Forest) — Offers trailer parking, and gives access to Bass Creek Trail #4, into the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness. US Forest Service
  • Bear Creek Pass Horse Camp / Bear Creek Pass Trailhead — Access via this trailhead to multiple trails (#613 is one), leading into the wilderness and higher elevation areas. US Forest Service
  • Blodgett Trailhead / Blodgett Overlook Trailhead (Blodgett Canyon) — Offers access to trails such as Blodgett Trail #19, and there are overlooks & creek crossings. Beautiful scenery, especially through canyon terrain. US Forest Service+2sweetagemt.com+2
